Gas prices up from last year
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The national average for a gallon of gas is $3.65. Today's state average price at the pump is $3.44, which is 21 cents less than the national average.
What's even better is that gas prices are even lower in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee areas.
Currently in Horry County, a gallon of gas costs $3.35. Meanwhile in Marion County, the average is $3.41.
Nonetheless, numbers are showing the price at the pump is rising right along with the temperatures -- but one report says you won't be paying much more for gas than you did last year.
A recent report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration showcased the slightly lower average gasoline price drivers will find at the pump this summer.
"Drivers are expected to pay an average $3.57 per gallon for regular gasoline this summer, close to last year's level," according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) April Short-Term Energy and Summer Fuels Outlook.
In another report, AAA begs to differ. It says drivers are already paying more.
The national average price at the pump is six cents more expensive than a week ago, 12 cents more than a month ago, and 11 cents more per gallon than this time last year.
While this year prices continue to tick higher approaching the May 1 deadline to switch to summer-blend gasoline production, AAA says drivers should consider these opposite trends, and realize the yearly premium will likely continue to increase in the coming days.
Hawaii currently sells the highest priced gas in the US with the cost of $4.30 per gallon. Utah sells the cheapest juice for $3.28 a gallon.
