No Concealable Weapons Allowed Window Stickers

S.C. law allows people holding concealed-weapon permits to carry firearms in places that serve food or alcohol, as long as they don't consume alcohol while inside. Establishments can opt out by posting a large sign in their window warning customers of their policy. Members can pick up the new SLED standard no concealed weapons window stickers (limited quantity) at MBACC, 1200 N. Oak St., Myrtle Beach.

Are You 'Entitled' to Entitlement Programs?

Mark Twain famously joked "everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it." Sadly, the same could be said for entitlement programs in America today. Liberals and conservatives, businesses and individuals, young and old alike all agree we have a problem. A big problem. Yet we see little being done to resolve this financial train wreck. Bruce Josten, the executive vice president of government affairs for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, provided a perfect summary ("10 Truths About America's Entitlement Programs") of this issue to the national chamber's board of directors recently. Business Support Needed for Work Ready Communities
The availability of skilled workers is the No. 1 factor in business location decisions.

South Carolina's nationally recognized Work Ready Communities program gives counties a way to earn certification of their workforce and thus assure employers of the quality of their workforce.

This prestigious recognition gives these areas decided advantages when competing to retain, grow and attract both human capital (jobs and talent) and financial capital (investment).

South Carolina's initiative certifies the quality of the workforce based on four criteria. Counties must meet goals for high school graduation, soft skills development, business support, and National Career Readiness Certificate holders. When a county reaches a "certified" status it means that the county has a system in place to provide to employers/businesses irrefutable data demonstrating they have a process in place to deliver a quality workforce with the skills needed by companies.

To receive Work Ready Communities certification, Horry County needs 190 businesses to support the project. It is free to sign up and the end result is powerful: Businesses can use this nationally recognized program to recruit and hire new employees and promote and train incumbent workers. Sign up to become a supporting business (there is no cost to the business) at workreadycommunities.org/business/form.

Laser Pointers
Throughout this past year, incidents where commercially sold laser pointers are being illegally used have increased significantly in the coastal area of Myrtle Beach. These incidents, whether involved in pointing at an aircraft or at an individual can cause not only injury to the individual and/or aircraft personnel but cause significant loss in man hours. This loss of man hours could result in the diversion from an emergency situation.

In addition, this activity is against the law. Retail business owners and operators need to be aware that selling such items to minors within the City of Myrtle Beach is illegal. Also, use of this item in the described manner is also illegal and can result in not only in an ordinance violation but a federal charge. View complete ordinance
