Freeze watch issued for Myrtle Beach area
A freeze watch is in effect from late Tuesday until likely
Thursday morning for the Myrtle Beach area as temperatures plummet
again, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in
Wilmington, N.C.
The freeze watch was issued through 8 a.m.
Wednesday, but forecasters said a freeze warning is likely to be issued
for Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to be 30 to 34 degrees
between 4 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, which will likely damage any tender or
sensitive vegetation and early spring crops.
A chilly rain is
expected Tuesday in the Myrtle Beach area as a low pressure offshore
moves northeast, forecasters said. The rain will end late Tuesday, but a
Canadian high pressure will move into the area from the west bringing
with it at or below freezing temperatures early Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecasters
said freezing temperatures will be more likely in the inland areas
while along the coast temperatures will remain cold.
“There
appears to be no mitigating factors for a significant late season
freeze,” meteorologist wrote in their forecast discussion.
Forecasters
also will monitor low relative humidity values, which are expected to
be between 25 to 35 percent Wednesday and Thursday, which means
residents should use extreme caution with any outdoor burning.
