Students can apply for GoSciTech summer camp at the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics
Applications are being accepted for
GoSciTech, the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics’ week-long,
residential summer camp.
The camp is held on the school’s
Hartsville campus for rising eighth-, ninth- and 10th-graders. It will be
offered June 15-21, June 22-28, July 6-12 and July 13-19, and students can
select which week/weeks they want to attend. Courses cost either $725 or $750
per week, including room and board.
Courses offered this summer include
CSI, Pre-Med and Anatomy, Programming with Minecraft, Engineering, Robotics
Programming, Science of Music, Creating Computer Games, Marine Conservation
Biology and Carolina 201, a race engineering camp, in partnership with
Darlington Raceway. Courses will be taught by the school’s faculty, college and
university professors, and professionals in their respective fields.
“This summer, we’re excited to offer
26 unique classes, eight of which are brand new,” said Susan Engelhardt,
GoSciTech director. “For example, a course like Carolina 201 at the Darlington
Raceway provides an opportunity to teach complex engineering concepts in a fun,
hands-on setting. This type of learning environment is engaging to students and
delivers a more meaningful experience. That’s what GoSciTech is all about.”
Acceptance to the program is based
on academic achievement. Eligible students who have demonstrated scholarship in
science, math, computer science, technology or engineering, and desire an
academically challenging experience are strong candidates.
The financial aid deadline is April
1, and the application deadline is May 9. Financial aid is only available to
S.C. residents.
The online application is available
at www.scgssm.org/goscitech. For a paper application, call the Center for
Science Education and Outreach, 383-3958.
